A recent survey conducted by GPSN among likely voters across board districts 1, 3, and 5 in LAUSD revealed key insights into the issues impacting public education and voter engagement in school board elections.

Key Findings

  • 84% of voters say the quality of instruction in schools is a very important factor in determining whether they vote.
  • 78% of voters say student mental health is an influential issue in their decision to vote.
  • Messages focused on creating pathways to prepare students for the workforce and on increasing investment in teacher recruitment, training, and preparation were most effective in driving voter interest.
  • Homelessness, inflation/cost of living, housing affordability, and crime are among the top concerns (cited by nearly two-thirds of voters).
  • 43% of voters say improving public schools would have a very positive impact on the issues they most care about; another 33% say somewhat positive.

Methodology

Survey conducted March 18 through April 1, 2024 among 1,121 representative likely voters in LAUSD board districts 1, 3, and 5. Margin of error +/-2.9%. Conducted online and via telephone in English and Spanish.
